International Women’s Day, Every Day of the Year

International Women’s Day (IWD) is observed annually on March 8 to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year, there were countless events held around the globe hosted by corporations, brands and community organizations. For IWD, I was fortunate to attend the Omniwomen New York chapter launch, which is a group organized by our parent company, Omnicom, with the purpose of increasing the influence and number of women leaders throughout the network. Needless to say, it was an incredibly inspirational evening.

#IWD2016: Illustrating Illustrious Women Who Broke Through

International Women’s Day is a time to recognize the tremendous hurdles women have had to overcome, and to renew our own commitment to removing those hurdles and leveling the playing field. As we collectively recognize the countless contributions of women in all walks of life on #IWD2016, I find myself personally inspired by the topic of women who “broke through” throughout history. Women who, in many cases, defied all odds to redefine a woman’s role and, in doing so, helped narrow the gap with their male counterparts. Parity Does Not Have to Be Rarity: Three Actions to Take Now

I was talking with my son and daughter, ages 15 and 12, about gender equality and compensation parity. They don’t quite understand why I believe the topics are concerning issues, and I think that’s a great thing. Through their Gen-Z lenses, they see parity in many ways, which I hope continues throughout their lives. But for those of us older than 15, who may still see and experience the lack of parity in both obvious and subtle ways, the theme for International Women’s Day 2016, #PledgeForParity, is welcome (click to tweet).
